21st century challenges will require international cooperation and security alliances as climate change is a global problem that extends beyond borders. Achieving net-zero emissions will require more than double the generation of electricity, and the scale of this challenge will require significant contributions from new nuclear power.  SMR deployment will be a crucial aspect to improving energy security, and the cooperative development of SMRs for exports will be a significant tool for the US and Korea to take leadership in the global energy market. Areas of cooperation in new nuclear technologies between the US and Korea can include technical cooperation, demonstration and deployment efforts in SMRs; securing economic feasibility through power plant design simplification; supporting non-Russian HALEU supply chain development; licensing of innovative designs with a new approach; and joint cooperation in capacity building efforts in new markets.
