Nuclear Energy

Part of our mission is to educate and provide a platform for discussion on issues relevant to nuclear energy policy. GABI’s nuclear energy programs focus on several key themes: the global expansion of nuclear power, US-allied civil nuclear partnerships, developments in foreign and domestic nuclear energy programs, and back-end nuclear fuel cycle management. Some of GABI’s main activities on nuclear energy issues include:

Nuclear Energy Workshops

GABI hosts expert-level workshops on technical issues related to nuclear energy policy, including dialogues on fast reactor R&D and the relative proliferation resistance of uranium enrichment technologies.

Multilateral Nuclear Energy Dialogue

GABI organizes closed-door private dialogues with high-level experts from the United States, Korea, Japan, Canada, and the United Kingdom to discuss pertinent nuclear energy policy issues. These meetings are coupled with site visits to facilities such as the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), Savannah River Site (SRS), and Gyeongju LILW Repository.

Congressional Briefings

Interest regarding nuclear energy issues in the congressional community is rising, but perspectives on nuclear technology in Capitol Hill have traditionally been unfavorable. However, as climate change becomes a more salient issue, nuclear power is gaining more support. To help facilitate a deeper understanding of nuclear energy, GABI hosts a series of public events on Capitol Hill with government officials, Congressional staff, experts, and other interested individuals.

Nuclear Energy Roadshows

Roadshow conferences occur in towns, cities, and regions that either support nuclear or have been traditionally anti-nuclear. This effort works to create grassroots support in both pro and anti-nuclear communities by promoting greater awareness concerning the safety of nuclear power and advocating the benefits of zero-carbon energy.
