GABI and Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) organized a joint workshop on “Overcoming Challenges to Increasing Integration and Deployment of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Technologies” on December 16, 2014. The workshop featured presentations on subjects such as “Integrating Renewables in the Era of Natural Gas,” “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy R&D Directions,” “Marketplace and Policy Solutions to Increasing Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Technology Deployment,” and “Policies to Support Grid Integration of Renewable Energy: Cases and Renewables-Grid Synergies.” GABI and KIER hosted a number of renewable energy and energy efficiency experts from the U.S. as well as South Korea. The presenters spoke about various approaches towards increasing renewables integration, including continued commitment to advanced technology R&D, restructuring electricity markets, and grid investment and modernization.
Followed by the Q&A session and an engaging discussion among the participants and speakers, NREL and DOE-EERE representatives gave remarks during the luncheon, highlighting the importance of international collaboration and supporting KIER’s efforts. Afterwards, GABI and KIER signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to affirm and continue their partnership on work involving green energy policy issues.
