Latin America and the Caribbean: Sustainable Energy Developments and its Integration into Clean Water, Transportation, Agriculture, and Security

Numerous countries and territories in South America, Central America, and the Caribbean have made efforts to decrease their dependence upon fossil fuels and take advantage of their considerable renewables potential. Aruba, for instance, has set ambitious goals to rely upon 100% renewable energy by 2020. Countries in the Caribbean, in particular, have experienced serious threats to energy security because of their dependence upon heavy fuel oil. Prudent policies and efforts to develop renewable energy sources in such countries would address issues of both energy security and energy sustainability.
