Advanced nuclear technologies hold promise for improved passive safety, greater versatility in applications, competitiveness in energy markets, enhanced proliferation resistance, and more sustainable fuel cycles. However, fulfilling this potential will likely require broad deployment in a timely fashion. Even as the COVID-19 outbreak threatens the foundations of global trade and commerce, leveraging international R&D expertise and supply chains may be needed to expedite the development, demonstration, and commercialization of advanced reactors.
