Geopolitics and energy security changes were beginning before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but the changes were hastened by the invasion. The global order needs to recognize that relationships with Russia are not likely to improve anytime soon. There is growing support of nuclear technology in the United States, and nuclear will need to double globally by 2050 to meet climate goals. Korea’s nuclear policy will change substantially when the new administration takes power in May. Geopolitically, there are already disruptive trends in the global energy market. The US and Korea need to build on its strengths of business and economic collaboration in addition to its geopolitical alliance to expand nuclear energy globally.
