The nuclear landscape has shifted dramatically in the last several years as nations are confronted with the difficult reality of achieving deep decarbonization, the increase in geopolitical rivalry, and the technological revolution in nuclear energy. There is an emerging market for SM&ARs in the developing economy world. The next generation of reactors is going to be deployed from Africa to the ME to SE Asia. Some advanced reactors may require more effort by IAEA safeguards than traditional light water reactors. The one reactor that best fits the current safeguards system is the Fast Neutron Spectrum Reactors. Strong nuclear governance is essential for all next-gen reactors. The objective is to identify how existing safeguards and security approaches can be adapted to new technologies.
