It will support research, development and demonstration of innovative nuclear energy technologies with a focus on fuels, materials and sensors in representative environments. While many foreign allies like France, Japan and South Korea , there are still skeptical views from Congress related to cost effectiveness and the budget is in question for review. Supporters argue that the VTR is necessary to prevent Russia from having a monopoly on fast-neutron reactors.
