While the current<br \/>\nbusiness model of large reactors is economically unattractive in many<br \/>\nparts of the world due to lengthy testing and licensing, field<br \/>\nconstruction, large scale size, or grid stability, small reactor<br \/>\ntechnologies such as microreactors can overcome many of these obstacles.<br \/>\nThese smaller machines come with reduced costs and time for design and<br \/>\nengineering, and they offer characteristics such as improved passive<br \/>\nsafety. Current estimates suggest that microreactors can meet cost targets<br \/>\nfor both heat and electricity, but altering characteristics to fit various<br \/>\nmarket needs may incur additional costs.
