Hydrogen has not typically received significant federal support compared to other clean energy technologies,
but the recent federal legislations such as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act
provide strong federal support for hydrogen energy technologies. Under the Inflation Reduction Act, there
are significant tax incentives for both the production and end uses of clean hydrogen. The tax incentive will
be based on the carbon intensity of the production of hydrogen with clean hydrogen receiving up to $3/kg
tax incentive. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has provided up to $8 billion in available funds for up to 10
clean hydrogen hub demonstrations. While currently projects are being requested by the government,
further guidance and development is needed to accurately anticipate the upcoming demand of hydrogen
projects.
